Remote proctoring technology, which is maturing and growing in acceptance for higher-stakes exams, allows testing wherever Internet connectivity is available. Currently this method is not recognized by national accreditation bodies such as ANSI/ISO or NCTA, but this is likely to change. Remote proctoring is currently not available for mobile devices, however, is under development.

Paradigm Testing offers two basic types of remote proctoring:

Real-time Remote Proctoring. Real-time Remote Proctoring can include video check-in requiring candidate to display valid ID and other methods to validate the identity of the candidate, and camera views of candidate, surrounding area, and computer screen. Testing sessions are monitored in real-time, with a single proctor being responsible for simultaneously monitoring 6-8 candidates. This approach flags suspected cheating or other irregularities when they occur, allowing halting the exam, or minimally withholding exam results, pending post exam review of the captured video.

Post-exam Remote Proctoring. Post-exam Remote Proctoring involves the video capture of the testing session, including a self check-in with display of drivers’ license or other government issued ID with photograph. The videotaped sessions are generally reviewed, with potential issues flagged and noted to the test sponsor, within 24 hours. The use of compressed video, allowing review of video more efficiently, and potentially reduced labor costs. The video is compressed to allow review of one-hour in approximately 10 minutes, with each testing session reviewed by two proctors.
